How to Beat Online Poker Games

The first book you should read is Getting Started in Hold ‘em by Ed Miller. After trying out the different poker games discussed in the book (Limit Hold ‘em, No Limit Hold ‘em and tournaments) you should decide which one you like the most and would like to specialize in. Although all poker games have some fundamental principles in common, the theory and strategy involved does differ for each game. In reality you will most likely play a combination of games throughout your poker career, but you will have the best results if you become an expert in one particular game.

Keep in mind that multi-table tournaments do not provide a steady source of income. The large fields in most events make the variance very high and you may go a long time before getting far enough in a tournament to win significant money. Cash games and Sit-N-Go tournaments yield smaller but steadier wins. Small but frequent wins add up quickly!
